Low Impact Aerobic Exercises
Aerobic exercise is beneficial for the recovery and rehabilitation after a back muscle injury. It is also heart healthy. A healthy blood flow by exercising is facilitated during aerobic exercise. Oxygen and nutrients move through the body to the injured muscles and it supports healing to the injured issues. Low impact exercises elevates the heart rate without jarring the body making it a good option for exercising while keeping pain at a minimum. Examples of low impact aerobic exercises include:
- Stationary Cycling
- Exercise Walking
- Elliptical Machines
- Water Aerobics/Swimming/Water Therapy
An ideal exercise program raises the heart rate for at least twenty minutes three to four times per week, but depending upon your pain level and general overall health this may not be possible. It may be necessary to start with shorter periods of exercise and gradually build up to twenty minutes or more. Please be sure to talk with your health care provider before starting any exercise program.
